Purpose of Search
The Littleton Elementary School District has been under the leadership of Dr. Roger Freeman for over 18 years and with his retirement in December of 2024, we’ll be conducting a search for a permanent superintendent to be in place for the 2025–2026 school year. The facilitate this search, the Littleton District Governing Board has contracted with the recruitment firm Ray & Associates. To ensure strong leadership throughout the school year, the governing board has appointed Dr. Jeffrey Smith. With extensive experience as a Superintendent, Dr. Smith is well-equipped to lead our district with confidence and expertise.
Search Process
To ensure that the next superintendent for the Littleton Elementary School District continues to have a leader the exemplifies someone who leads in learning, caring and growing, an extensive search process is in place. This process will provide opportunities for all stakeholders to provide input into their next leader. Stakeholders include staff, students, families, and community members. Below are tentative dates and opportunities for staff and community to participate in this process. Please be aware that these dates and times could change.
Consultant Discussion with Littleton Governing Board
October 1, 2024: Board meeting in the Littleton district board room starting at 6:00 p.m.

Community Survey
A survey was provided to the entire Littleton Community, families, and staff starting in early October The survey was closed on October 31, and the resulting information was discussed at the November 12, 2024, general governing board meeting.
Community Meetings with Ray & Associates
Community forums took place at the Littleton District Office on the evening of October 29, 2024, and the afternoon/evening of October 30, 2024. This was an opportunity for staff and families to share their thoughts with Ray & Associates about the upcoming superintendent search. Information that was discussed during these forums will be at the November 12, 2024, general governing board meeting.
Board Meeting to Discuss Superintendent Search
At the November 12, 2024, Littleton ESD General Governing Board meeting, Ray & Associates provided the governing board information from the community survey. The application was posted on this website and many other educational organizations and closed on January 5, 2025.
Interview of Candidates
The governing board will conduct several special meetings throughout January to select initial and final candidates for interviews. Public forums will also be held to provide an opportunity for stakeholder input. Information will be updated on this website with more details.
